Ubuntu reinstall runbook — tap COPY, paste in terminal

Step 1 — Verify your files survived

Mounts DATA, shows its size (expect ~70G), unmounts. Read-only peace of mind.

Step 2 — Memory shield (8GB swap on the USB stick)

Stops the system from killing the installer again. Slow beats dead.

Step 3 — Kill the bloat

Kills updaters, software store, crash reporter, bluetooth, printing. Firefox + terminal untouched.

Step 4 — Check memory

Top RAM users + free memory. Run after step 3 to confirm.

Then: close Firefox, launch Install Ubuntu 26.04 from the desktop — Manual installation, p1 = vfat /boot/efi (format), p2 = ext4 / (format), p3 = DATA (Unchanged), bootloader nvme0n1, user archon-ix. Walk away until it says complete.
